Videx
Videx
Videx is a medication used to treat infections caused by HIV. Manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Videx labeling changes to expand the Boxed Warning, Warnings, and Precautions sections were issued after fatal cases of lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis were reported with the use of Videx alone or in combination with Zerit. Bristol-Myers reported several pregnant women had died after taking the Videx and Zerit combination.
Reports of fatal lactic acidosis were reported in pregnant women that had received the combination of Videx and stavudine with other antiretroviral agents. Bristol-Myers' Videx alone, or in combination with the company's other drug Zerit, have been the only drugs of the type to have deaths associated to it.
